My name is Cheryl and I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Steve. We have four children, ages 12, 11, 9 and 6, Makayla, Joshua, Gabriela and Nathaniel. We have lived in Walnut Creek, Ca for the past four years.
Our family is very active in our church, Valley Bible Church. I have been homeschooling our kids for the past seven years.
My family loves to vacation in Tahoe and Kauai. Steve is Hawaiian and has lots of family living on the island. Uncle Bobby first introduced us to the island on our honeymoon in 1991. We have also traveled abroad to Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Germany and France.
When I am not outdoors (hiking, running, biking or swimming), I am found teaching, cooking, baking, knitting, sewing, beading, reading and looking after our eleven chickens. One of my dearest friends taught me to knit on a bus in Egypt five years ago. Since then, I have enjoyed knitting scarves, beanies, headbands, blankets and purses.
Freedom Strands began at an abolitionist conference back in March 2009. There are many organizations like IJM that aid in the fight against global slavery and oppression. I am daily reminded of my freedoms and I am burdened by the enslavement and poverty of others. It is our hope to grow in our knowledge of how to fight against injustice of all kinds. Trade as One is an important organization that supports fair trade products from around the world. If you are not sure whether your product is fair trade, buy locally made.
I would love for you to join us on this journey about handcrafting, homemaking and Fair Trade.
